Hydebank Wood
Special Supervision Unit
The Special Supervision Unit (SSU) comprises 10 rooms, including 2 Observation rooms for vulnerable inmates considered to be at risk from self-harm. There is also an exercise yard, a staff office and an Adjudication Room where the Governor hears evidence during adjudication hearings. These hearings take place when an inmate has been placed on report for a breach of Prison Rules.
The Governor may award up to seven days cellular confinement for a serious breach of Prison Rules. In this case the inmate will serve this period housed in the SSU.
The Special Supervision Unit also houses those inmates that present a persistent threat to the good order and discipline of the Centre as a result of their unacceptable behaviour. The Unit staff and a multi-disciplinary team work with these inmates in an attempt to help them understand and address their problems.
