Sports Facilities

The sports facilities at Maghaberry include a large sports hall for team games, a conditioning room with aerobic equipment and weight training machines. Facilities also exist for the treatment of sports injuries.

The prison has outdoor sports fields comprising grass and all weather pitches. Before taking part in soprts events, a prisoner's level of fitness is assessed by a qualified physical education instructor and a plan developed for each individual depending on their needs.

Two astro turf pitches for the use of separated prisoners opened in 2005.

Prison staff make use of the sports facilities at lunchtime and also have access to a Staff Wellness Centre.
