WORK OF THE VOLUNTARY AND COMMUNITY SECTOR PRAISED BY CRIMINAL JUSTICE MINISTER
Date Created - Tuesday 28 October 08 @ 00:00Criminal Justice Minister Paul Goggins hosted an Evening Reception at Hillsborough Castle for over 100 representatives of voluntary and community sector organisations who play a vital role in working in partnership with criminal justice agencies.
The Minister said: “The unique work of the voluntary and community sector with the most vulnerable people in society has not only improved the lives of individuals, but has been crucial in helping the government achieve key targets in reducing crime over the past number of years.
“These organisations work with criminal justice agencies to provide young people with stable and secure environments, positive role models, opportunities to develop their potential and activities to channel their enthusiasm and energy into something positive.
“In a variety of different ways offenders are given opportunities to put something back into their communities; these include delivering ‘meals on wheels’ to older people and helping disabled people to participate in activities which others take for granted.
“The community sector provides a real lifeline for victims of crime who often feel their lives have been turned up side down and are in need of help and support. Voluntary Organisations play a crucial role in helping victims get their lives back on track”.
