Prisons’ Minister Paul Goggins has asked the Prison Service to carry out an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abscond of prisoner Mark Thomas Clarke (40) on Tuesday afternoon. The prisoner, who had been ‘living in the community’, was recaptured by police this afternoon.

The Minister said; “While I very much welcome the fact that the prisoner has been re-captured and returned to custody, it is important that lessons are learned from this incident and I have therefore asked the Prison Service to carry out an immediate review of the circumstances which led to Mr Clarke absconding.”
