Magilligan Prison is located at Magilligan Point on the Northwest extremity of Co Londonderry. It is close to the mouth of Lough Foyle and is less than two miles by sea from Co Donegal in the Irish Republic. It is designated as “a medium security prison, housing short-term male prisoners [and also having] low security accommodation for selected prisoners nearing the end of their sentence
